Emergency Contraception Pill Service (ECP)

FREE Emergency Contraception is available to Under 25 year olds throughout the Waikato Region.

The aim of this project is to remove access barriers to Emergency Contraception Pill by increasing the options available to young women in the Waikato.  Pharmacists are trained and accredited to provide this service.

Benefits for the Patient:

Community Pharmacy is ideally placed as is generally in accessible locations for young people, no appointment is required and the service attracts no cost. 

Pharmacies providing this service:

This service is available at most pharmacies throughout the Waikato region. If the pharmacy does not provide this service they will assist the patient in finding one that does.

Midland Community Pharmacy Group is funded by the DHB to provide the Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) free to under 25 year olds.  Patients are asked to fill out a short 6 question form that is completely confidential and non identifiable in any way. This form captures useful demographic data.  

I am a pharmacist, how do I become accredited to provide ECP? 

If you wish to become ECP accredited refer to the New Zealand College of Pharmacists website at www.psnz.org.nz and to view when accreditation courses or audio conferences are being held.  Email MidCPG to inform us of your accreditation and we will arrange to send:

  • Patient Outcome Form "We need to know"  to use for ECP consultations 

  • MidCPG Claim Form
